For a little light relief, fire up Roxio Creator Classic 7.0 and try using it to burn a CD.
The Elapsed Time indicator counts up, but the progress bar doesn’t move. Eventually, after ten minutes or so, you realise that something strange is going on. What are those ears peeping out from the sides of this elegantly drawn window with the curved corners?
It turns out that they are all that is visible of a message that has popped up, telling you that one of the files you were burning to the CD has changed and asking you what you would like to do about it.
It makes life so much more interesting if you display messages like this underneath another window instead of following the usual vulgar, pushy Windows convention of displaying them on top.
